What is BSP? Billing and Settlement Plan
The IATA Billing and Settlement Plan (BSP) is the system that collects ticket and EMD sales from accredited travel agencies in a market and settles the money with airlines in a single payment cycle.
Instead of each agency paying each airline separately, accredited agencies report their sales to BSP. BSP calculates what each agency owes, collects it, and distributes the funds to airlines on a schedule. In the United States the equivalent role is played by ARC, the Airlines Reporting Corporation.
Implications for travel platforms
BSP sales reports are the reference for reconciliation: every ticket, refund, exchange and EMD your system issued should match a line on the report. Differences usually surface as ADMs from airlines. Automating that reconciliation is one of the highest-value back-office projects in an agency or B2B platform.
